Happy first Tuesday of September! I hope you all had a great weekend after the Husker victory! I drove down to Lincoln with friends to watch the game in the Railyard and it was PACKED. I’m only 24, but I felt a little old in the swarm of students and I think the next few games I’ll be viewing from my couch, homemade nachos in hand.

I loved getting to see friends from college there, though, and had some good chats with gals who came up and mentioned my blog.  My favorite thing about blogging is knowing you all are actually reading the content I create!! I love sharing REAL style and everyday life in the Midwest. I get so discouraged when I see something cute on Instagram from a blogger and then discover it’s like $500. That’s all fine and dandy for a luxurious bag that you can carry every day, but a dress or a top that’s $500 better be made of GOLD, right?

I always like hearing what you think of what I’m posting and what you’d want to see more of. Two gals I talked to mentioned they love seeing my workwear posts, so today I wanted to share that; workwear: summer to fall! I can’t wait until I move into my new house (I close on Friday!!) and have a mirror where I can show you work outfit selfies. That sounds super cliche, but right now I don’t have a way to share anything daily!

This exact skirt is from last fall, but a detailed black skirt is versatile/classic and worth sharing over and over through any season. You can pair something textured with both prints or solids. I found similar versions here and here.

One of my favorite places to get business professional tops is Target. I prefer materials that aren’t cotton, because shrinking a work top is the worst. Polyester, viscose or anything blended tend to last longer and stay better color-wise. I also like to grab tops at Target because most are machine washable, versus a lot of Nordstrom or department store dressy tops tend to be hand wash or dry clean only. Always check labels, though, and once you turn 20, you need to learn to take things to the dry cleaner. If you struggle with paying $10 to have a skirt cleaned, check online to see if your local area has a discount dry cleaning service. Omaha has a $1.99 dry cleaner, and although I’d never take a suit there, it’s a great idea for those pieces!

The easiest way to change your workwear from summer to fall is by incorporating darker colors. During summer, I’d pair this top/blazer combo with a tan skirt, but now I can swap it out for black or navy. It’s September, but you can get away with white in small ways, like this blazer. Mural is my favorite blazer brand and this is the one I’m wearing. I’ve had the white for about a year and it’s still bright as ever. It IS machine washable – I just throw it on delicate and it comes out perfect every time! It’s worth the price.

Finally, transition workwear from summer to fall by keeping your summer shoes on rotation. If it isn’t cold temps, rock your open toed shoes. Take it one piece at a time. These were a Target steal last year, but here is a similar pair.

I’m dreading tight season again, but can’t wait to see what’s to come on winter work styles. I haven’t seen anything too new yet, so I’m looking forward to incorporating the same pieces I had last season in with chunky sweaters and leather booties.

What workwear questions do you have? I’d love to hear! I’m working on a few other posts this week – if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my stories this weekend and the Ikea hacks I’m completing – more to come on that!

  • If you watched my stories, you may have seen my GIANT #monstera! I decided to propagate it on Monday after finding this perfect rattan-looking ceramic planter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is my first year with any houseplants that aren’t succulents so I googled a ton of blog posts about how to propagate. Today (after waiting 3 days) I swapped the water out for new and placed the cutting next to the current plant on a little table. I’m hoping this works and it grows roots/thrives in a few weeks. Please send me ALLLL your houseplant tips! So far I only do these
  • Would rather have been in the snow in Jackson Hole than getting 10+ inches in Nebraska❄️ Last January we were skiing, drinking wine and venturing around my favorite place. Take me back! Where’s your favorite winter trip? #visitjacksonhole #jacksonhole #wintertrip #snowday #nebraskablogger #letitsnow #winterfashion #winterstyle #sorelboots #patagonia #milliondollarcowboybar #skijacksonhole
  • Each year I set a reading goal, and most years it increases. In 2020, I wanted to read 32 books; however, 2020 was a bit of a mess. Although I spent more time at home than ever before, I spent less time reading. I did get the chance to finish 26 novels, and I can’t wait to share them with you on my blog today! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know it’s past the end of the year, but I wanted to share my “best books of 2020” post still, as I know many of you made a reading goal for this year
  • If you’ve followed me since the holidays, I’ve been testing the @peterthomasrothofficial Water Drench Hyaluronic Glow Serum from @sephora, and I’m amazed with how this product literally drenches your skin with intense moisture. In the winter (especially this weather), I always struggle with certain parts of my face being more dry than others, and if I had any dry spots, applying this at night took them away by morning.  I use one other serum at night, and this was a great one to alternate this season (I also love PTR’s masks). It’s clinically shown to lock in hydration for up
  • Finished last weekend’s project! We added board and batten to the previously plain entry way. I jokingly told my mom I’d do this project if it cost less than $40 - it was only $38 to complete, so we did it! Plus, @menardshomeimprovement 11% rebates are back Swipe to see before ➡️ I added a new entry table from Hobby Lobby (in-store only) and some decor I had around the house. I can’t wait to show you the other area we added board and batten to once it’s complete! http://liketk.it/3alwq #liketkit @liketoknow.it #entryway #entrywaydecor #entrywaytable #boardandbatten #boardandbattenwall #hobbylobbyfinds #hobbylobby #homedecor
  • Our first two days in Utah have been GORGEOUS. The weather is sunny and 70’s + the hikes have been incredible at @canyonlandsnps, @deadhorsepoint, and @archesnps! Tomorrow we’re hiking more of Arches + repelling down canyons, so we’ll see how that goes I’ve been sharing lots in my stories, including the fun places we’ve been staying. So far I 10/10 recommend camping at Dead Horse State Park. Just wowwww! Happy Sunday! ☀️
