It’s been almost two years since I purchased my original Peloton Bike. The piece of equipment has hundreds of rides (here are some of my faves if you missed this post), and I’ve loved every. single. second. of having it in my home gym.
Last month, Peloton unveiled the Peloton+ Bike and everyone went WILD. The new bike has a bigger and movable screen, as well as a “fresher” look. However, I’m keeping my original Peloton Bike and not upgrading to the Peloton+ Bike.
Why?
Sure, the OG bike costs less, so it seems like an obvious choice, but it’s also never failed me. Peloton has continued to release new technology that cohesively updates on your bike, making there really not a need for a newer model.
This summer, they released the app on Smart TVs, so my home gym TV can play workouts and I have no need for a rotating screen. I can see how it would be extremely helpful if you were in a small space/didn’t have a TV/tablet, but since I do… no need. The same factor goes for the screen. I work on a computer all day; I don’t necessarily need a bigger device screen.
Although having the new look would be nice (the cord being hidden from the front would be my biggest incentive), the original Peloton Bike is structurally sturdy (and I’ve moved homes), it’s got both a water bottle holder and phone space and, personally, the sound is pretty dang loud for a 14x14ish space.
My Final Thoughts:
If I was purchasing a new bike, I would purchase the new model. With the original Peloton Bike, you have a trade in or sell option at all times, and if you are a frequent rider, you’ve gotten your money’s worth. There’s no need for those of us with the original bike to get newer models, but if I were just shopping now, I’d do it! In the long run, you’re ahead of the curve.
If you are one of those shoppers, you can use my referral code of THFUJ6 to get $100 off your Peloton purchase.
If you have more questions, Peloton published this great post, “13 Questions All New Peloton Members Ask” and it’s super accurate. Wish that had been there when I joined in 2018 – ha!
Happy Riding!
