January Recap
Sharing my January 2021 recap – starting off the year with lots of Peloton rides, a good book recommendation, and more!
What I Bought:
I didn’t do a ton of shopping in January after the holidays. I did, however, find this ceramic rattan-looking planter at Target after deciding to propagate my monstera plant!
I also picked up a few beauty items, including these $10.99 self tan drops from Ulta (will report back on how they work), a new detangler, and Tula’s blurring primer (also still testing).
Finally, I got the iPhone 12 after being an iPhone 8 user for 5ish years. I’m really excited to utilize the new camera and have more storage! I ordered this cheap case for it from Amazon, and it’s a great value.
Where I Traveled & Ate:
After the New Year, we traveled to Dillon, CO with some friends for two days in the mountains. We ate a great dinner in Silverthorne at Sauce on the Blue (they have outdoor yurts) and on the way back, had brunch at Happy Camper in Denver (make a reservation and it is outside-only).
In Nebraska, my roommate and I had a phenomenal dinner at the Woodcliff Restaurant in Fremont. I’ve eaten there before many times, but this knocked it out of the park. We both got catfish tacos, which came with a cilantro lime slaw. I had steamed vegetables on the side and she got a salad. We each had a signature drink and dessert. My dessert choice was homemade berry ice cream with white chocolate chips and one heaping scoop was…$2. I was mind blown, and it was delicious.
My boyfriend and I also had dinner with my best friend and her husband at Farmer Brown’s in Waterloo. It was sub-par. We won’t be back any time soon, but I’m glad we tried it!
What I Watched:
January was definitely a month where I watched a lot of new-to-me shows!
On Netflix, my boyfriend and I continued to watch Arrested Development. Whoever writes this show has quite the imagination… and somehow it feels like it has infinite seasons!
I also got very into Bling Empire. Watched the whole gaudy season. Of course, I joined the Bridgerton cult and was slightly obsessed. Cannot wait for Season 2.
On Apple TV, my boyfriend introduced me to Ted Lasso, an American football coach who is recruited to travel to Europe and coach pro soccer. It was one of the best shows I’ve seen in awhile. It was really well-made and a feel-good show.
I also finished The Flight Attendant. I heard it was creepy, but I didn’t quite get that vibe after episode two. There was a lot of lull in the middle of the season, but the ending wrapped everything up nicely.
What I Read:
In January, I only read one book, but it was a good one: Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner. It’s a mystery novel about a female vigilante who travels the country after finding unsolved missing persons cases online and solving them – at no cost to families, detectives, etc. She discovers a girl who has been missing for 11 months on a message board and travels to a rough Boston neighborhood to uncover what happened. It had a ton of twists. 5/5 stars.
Favorite Peloton Classes:
January was a huge Peloton month for me! I cycled 153.2 miles over 19 days. I started a Power Zone Pack 8-week challenge. I felt like I really began a consistent workout routine, as well as started planning my workouts in advance.
Here were some of my favorite rides:
- Matt Wilpers 30 min Power Zone Endurance Pop Ride from 1/7/21 – This class had great music!
- Ally Love’s 30 min Sundays with Love from 1/24/21 – I completed the Sundays with Love series and did many of the rides live. Doing live rides helped hold me accountable on the weekends. This was just one in particular I enjoyed more than others. Ally always picks a word of the week. This one is “joyfulness.”
- Cody Rigsby’s 20 min Groove Ride from 1/20/21 – This is for my Soul Cycle lovers! Tap backs.
- Robin Arzon’s 20 min HIIT Ride from 1/13/21 – How is Robin so pregnant, yet her workouts are so hard?! This class HURT.

Looking Forward:
I’m hoping to start a few home renovation projects…but we’ll see! My boyfriend and I are doing an early Valentine’s dinner next week at Fleming’s in Omaha. He works the 14th, so we’re celebrating a bit in advance! I’m excited for a night “out.” Happy February!
