This post has been a long time coming! I have shared my Budget Planner multiple times on Instagram & via Instagram Stories. Being in my 20’s, budgeting can be tough, so I today I’m sharing how to use a budget planner.
I purchased my planner from May Designs. I’m a big fan of gifting their notebooks and I personally use their gratitude journal and fitness journal as well. You can customize not only the design on the front, but add your initials, name, monogram or a title. It’s very personalized. Here is how I budget.
How To Use A Budget Planner Monthly:
At the end of each month, I plan for the next. I write in my goals, extra expenses (ex: oil change for car, haircut, etc.) and then monthly expenses I know about. I get paid twice a month, so I like to “divide” the second page. I listed off a few examples above. Dividing it helps me pay each section at once. After I get paid each time, I get on the computer and go through the list, making sure I check off each box.
How To Use a Budget Planner Weekly:
After figuring out my monthly budget, I dive into weekly. Each month I go through my bank statements and fill in these sections. I could allot for a certain amount via each section, but I generally am good about keeping each the same. I like filling these in during or at the end of the month so I can see if I increased/decreased and what I need to plan for. This also shows me how much trips to see friends REALLY cost and little things like increases in gas prices I can account for. I think this particular planner has JUST the right sections, too.
The main thing this planner has helped me with is paying each of my bills in sections. This way nothing gets paid late and I know how much I can spend after paying everything. It’s also easy to carry and always fits in my purse!
What kind of planner do you use? What financial tips or advice can you share with me?
