After getting my first facial on Friday evening, I received a lot of beauty questions! Today I’m sharing the best beauty products I discovered in 2017.
On Friday evening, I was invited to a private event at Stephanie Moss Salon in Omaha. Not only did I get to enjoy a blowout, but a hydrofacial. It was my first facial and I learned so much from the esthetician about the importance of skincare. At one point she made a joke about how you can’t get away with a makeup remover wipe and Cetaphil like you could in high school and I silently shuttered because that was me until recently!
Confession: I’m someone who hates to wash my face.
Now truth: I’m writing this on Sunday (day 3) after my facial, and my skin is still glowing and smooth. I am now realizing how important it is to actually use all of the great products I own regularly. One thing she mentioned was using a professional face wash. Although Cetaphil is great for cleansing, I learned it isn’t a professional remedy.
Aside from now wanting to get a facial on like, a monthly basis, I evaluated all of my beauty products and wanted to share with you both the skin and makeup selections that I consider the best beauty products I discovered in 2017.
Cleanser/Face Wash: Glo Skin Beauty Purifying Gel Cleanser
This is a professional cleanser that is easy to use (twice a day recommended) and is for combination skin. It helps with both my dryness and my acne!
Night Product: Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
A classic makeup lovers fave, this is something both my mom and I use and it seriously helps revitalize your skin and clear up fine lines.
Face Mask: Kiehl’s Deep Pore Cleansing Mask
Charcoal masks were like “the thing” to do in 2017. This mask helped both my pores and my dryness. I used it almost weekly during the winter months (still am using).
This primer isn’t the best in the winter when my skin is dry, but it’s great for the summer to take away oiliness! I’ve also found it makes my foundation stay on longer.
Foundation Brush: Sigma Beauty F80 Flat Kabuki Brush
If you don’t own this, I would drop everything and order it now. This brush is AMAZING. I tried a beauty blender but went right back to this. It applies liquid foundation evenly and I don’t feel like it gets dirty as quick as other brushes. I’ve had mine for about a year and I wash it monthly with this makeup brush cleanser.
Mascara: Tie Between Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Super Curling & Lifting Mascara & Yves Saint Laurent The Shock Volumizing Mascara
Benefit’s mascara was the #1 beauty buy at Ulta for 2017! I actually got it at Sephora in one of those “best mascaras” packages; it was the full size product. I have used this every day for the last 3-ish months and then layered over it with the YSL product (or Diorshow, but that was a 2015 find for me 🙂 ).
The YSL mascara is AMAZING. I always think the big-name products are really expensive (it’s $29), but I always find them the most worth it. I had yet to find something that competed with my Diorshow mascara, but really this has done it for me. There’s a reason they are pricey, and not only do I think there is more product in the mascara tube, but I think they are more long-lasting during the day.
Bronzer: Neutrogena® Healthy Skin Blends
You may have noticed I use a lot of pricey beauty products. I have always had somewhat sensitive skin (a lot of foundations have made me break out), and I have to be cognicent of what I’m using. Neutrogena sent me this bronzer recently and I LOVE IT. I was using a Mac bronzer, but this is so much better and it’s about $8! I’ve found the shades blend really well and I think it would work on any skin color.
Lipstick: Bobbi Brown
I went to the Von Maur Bobbi Brown counter this past summer to have my makeup done before the Lady Antebellum concert and walked away with a new lip shade. I didn’t think much of it, just that I’d wear it for the night, but I have ended up wearing it almost daily to work and on the weekends out. Bobbi Brown lipsticks come in really classic shades and are very smooth – mine have never caked on. They also last while I drink coffee! My favorite shade is ‘Brownie’.
Perfume: Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium
My friend Bayley got me hooked on this and it has spread like wildfire around all of my girlfriends! I think every time I’ve worn it I’ve received compliments. Even my Uber drivers have complimented me. LOL
Dry Shampoo: Batiste
I’ve really struggled to find a dry shampoo that works for my brown hair. I’ve tried Living Proof, Aveda, Suave, Not Your Mothers, Aussie, Amika and Dry Bar, so you could say I’ve been hunting for one I like for awhile… The two I’ve really liked are Suave (hello $3 at Target!) and Batiste. You can find the Batiste at Walgreens, Target or even TJ Maxx. It just blends really well with my hair color and I can go the longest without washing with this brand.
Hair Product in General: Moroccanoil Treatment
I may have talked about this before, but I can’t get enough of it. I don’t like to dry my hair all the way in the mornings, and I get just a pump of this and rub it around my ends while it’s damp. By the time I get to work 20-ish minutes later, my hair is totally dry and smooth. It also helps me keep my hair straight without straightening it. I’ve also found it helps my ends look better and I can go longer without needing haircuts.
So, that was long! This may be one of my longest posts ever. I’m just pretty passionate about what I’ve found that works for me. Let me know if you try/have tried any of these beauty products. I’d love to hear from someone else on the Glo Beauty train!! You can learn more/purchase anything from the maroon links or below.
